Geographic Names of Indigenous Peoples (35th Annual Geographic Names Conference)

Event Date:

Tuesday, 25 October, 2011 to Saturday, 29 October, 2011

The 35th Annual Geographic Names Conference of the Council of Geographic Names Authorities (COGNA) is devoted to 'Geographic Names of Indigenous Peoples and other Geographic Names Issues.'

I just noticed this via a blog post by Gary Holton at Talking Alaska. It's good to see attention paid to this topic by government organizations. Some of the sessions look especially interesting to me, seeing that they are not only dealing with Geographic Names of Indigenous Peoples as it applies to standardization, policy, and naming practices, but also with related questions about human prehistory, something I'm very interested in.
